Field testing devices
Plate bearing tester, soil penetromer and field vane tester are important soil mechanical devices for geotechnical field investigation.
A plate bearing tester is made to examine the settlement of the soil according to the load in the fields. The deformation and bearing capacity of the underground can be determined for foundation and road or airport building. The procedure of a (static) plate bearing test is described in the standard DIN 18134. To distinguish the deformation module Ev a plate of 300 mm diameter (also 600 / 720 mm) is stressed until a settlement of 5 mm or with normal load of 0,5 MN/m2. Usually a heavy vehicle provides the counter bearing to the bearing plate and a load transducer is interposed to read the power of stress. Along a movable sensing arm the travel of settlement is measured by a travel gauge or transducer. The Benkelmann-beam, which is used for road building has comparable functions.
Wille Geotechnik® provides plate bearing tester with analogue or digital measurement and automatic data-acquisition systems of own development and manufacturing. In contrast to static plate bearing tester there exists a dynamic plate bearing tester with a light drop weight of 10 kg.
To accomplish civil-engineering field work by sounding and sampling Wille Geotechnik provides an extensive assortment:
- Drilling- and sounding rods
- Manual and hydraulic drilling equipment
- Light, middle and heavy-weight penetrometer
- SPT (standard penetrometer test) CPT (cone penetrometer test)
- A huge quantity of accessories and service
The field vane tester is designed to examine the un-drained shear strength of soft cohesive soil in the fields. According to the Standard DIN 4096 the shear strength can be determined from the torque of two different vane sizes (100*50 mm, 150*75 mm). Even here Wille Geotechnik® provides service and quality of own manufacturing.
