Combined Shear and Triaxial System

The combined modular direct shear and triaxial test system is designed to determine the shear strength of intact or joint rock or concrete samples. Different sample sizes can be tested by our system, be they cylindrical, prismatic, cubical or irregularly shaped.

The high stiffness system with different accessories and options offers the possibility to perform a variety of tests with one single device.

  • High stiffness robust loading frame with large testing area
  • Precise force transducers to measure and control shear and normal stress
  • Hydraulic power packs with high-quality noise protection, as well as emergency functions
  • The shear boxes consist of a tilting free lower and upper shear frame, which is guided by linear bearings, a fixed upper shear frame and a guided load piston.
  • High-speed, closed-loop control of load, displacement, position and volume or flow
  • Possibility to apply different stress paths or strain rates load independent shear rates (shear stress optionally) via micro-processor controlled high quality servo-valve
  • Suitable for precise direct shear and triaxial tests on rocks, sliding surfaces and building materials

The combined triaxial/direct shear device is a modular and easy handling system and can be upgraded and assembled with extra hardware to perform more tests, e.g:

  • Triaxial cell
  • Permeability tests on Rock samples by using single or double pressure intensifier up to 150MPa (steady state or unsteady stet)
  • Ultrasonic velocity measuring
  • Acoustic emission test (3D)
  • Hydraulic fracturing test on intact specimen
  • Environmental temperature chamber for conducting triaxial test under ambient condition
  • Creep test on rock samples subjected to the constant load for determining the long term parameters of the samples for analysing the stability of the structures (e.g. the underground constructions).

GEOsys Software for user defined free programmable test standard procedures and complex test sequences by structured Windows operation on a graphic user interface.

Through a series of menus, this provides quick access to all the controls needed for test set ups and follows standard test sequences.

The software is able to create an unlimited number of test stages with interactive and calculated parameters for closed-loop, real-time control. An unlimited number of control and measuring channels can be simultaneously controlled
